Philosophy
From Full Metal Alchemist d20
>== What we are trying to do ==
- "intended as a resource for running RPG games in the world of Full Metal Alchemist" means:
- to facilitate play in a Full Metal Alchemist-themed setting - RPGs facilitate different goals and modes of play (http://www.indie-rpgs.com/articles/). This is intended to facilitate the exploration of the setting, themes, moral issues, and characters presented in the FMA stories. (Maybe that means it's geared toward Simulationist and Narrativist modes --Sprice 15:25, 8 Jan 2006 (EST) )
- provide rules that allow character creation, storytelling, and action like that found in the FMA anime and manga
- to accomodate a more flexible magic system - The magic system from D&D and basic d20 does not accomodate either the flexibility or spontaneity of alchemy in the FMA world. We need to replace it with a system that allows those features as well as the plot and storytelling styles of the stories.
- "intended as an adaptation of the d20 system" means:
- modify and append the d20 (D&D) system - the d20 system, while by no means the game-for-all-gamers, provides a broad and flexible system for running fantasy and pre-modern RPGs. We don't want to recreate the wheel, or make a new game. We want the things d20 does well, and to change the things it doesn't do well.
- to allow players of other d20 games to quickly adopt the FMA setting - We'd like to be able to give this setting to the broadest audience and to allow them to bring pieces of it back to their own games.
- to speed creation of this game - ... by not recreating the wheel. It would be nice to have a version of this out by Otakon 2006.
